About the Role
The Job Coach provides direct, on-site support to interns within workplace settings, helping them develop practical skills, independence, and confidence. The role also involves building strong relationships with employers, supporting families, and contributing to intern development and EHCP outcomes.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities – On-Site Support
· Provide one-to-one and group support to interns in the workplace.
· Support interns using TSI (training in systematic instruction) and supported employment techniques.
· Help interns learn job roles, tasks, and workplace expectations.
· Promote independence and gradually reduce support where appropriate.
· Monitor and record intern progress within the workplace.
Employer Engagement & Management
· Act as the main liaison between the programme and the employer.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with employers.
· Support employer understanding of supported internships and intern needs.
· Address any workplace concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
· Develop new business relationships / intern placement opportunities.
Vocational Profiling & Job Shaping
· Complete vocational profiling to identify intern strengths, skills, and interests.
· Undertake job carving and job shaping to match roles to intern abilities.
· Adapt tasks and environments to support successful outcomes.
Parent/Carer & External Communication
· Maintain regular communication with parents and carers.
· Provide updates on intern progress, achievements, and challenges.
· Work collaboratively with external professionals where required.
Travel Training & External Support
· Support interns with travel training to and from placements.
· Assist with developing independence in community and workplace settings.
· Undertake external support tasks as required.
Collaboration & EHCP Contribution
· Work closely with the Employability Tutor and wider team.
· Provide detailed feedback on intern progress to support EHCP reviews.
· Contribute to review meetings and planning where required.
Additional Responsibilities
· Maintain accurate records of progress, support, and any incidents.
· Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
· Travel between sites when required.
· Any other duties specified by the leadership team.
Skills & Experience
· Experience supporting individuals with additional needs in employment or education settings.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to build relationships with employers and stakeholders.
· Understanding of safeguarding and wellbeing.
· Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
Desirable
· Experience in supported internships or job coaching.
· Knowledge of vocational profiling and job carving.
· Understanding of EHCP processes.
· A full UK driving licence (if travel between sites is required).
